My Story

How a passion for warmth became a calling

🕯

Where It All Began

Some of my earliest and most treasured memories are tied to scent. The warm vanilla that drifted through my grandmother's kitchen on Sunday mornings. The cedar and pine of a wood fire on a cold winter evening. The first bloom of jasmine outside our back door each spring. Long before I ever thought about making candles, I understood that a fragrance could carry you somewhere — instantly, completely, and with a kind of warmth that words rarely manage.

A Spark of Something More

It started quietly, the way most meaningful things do. A candle-making kit, a rainy afternoon, and a curiosity I couldn't quite shake. I'm a stay-at-home mum to two young children, and if you know that life, you know how easy it is to lose yourself in it — wonderfully, completely, and sometimes all at once. I poured my first wax on a kitchen table covered in newspaper while the little ones napped, half expecting it to go wrong. It didn't.

Something in the ritual of it — the patience, the quiet, the way a simple flame could transform the mood of an entire room — felt deeply right to me. I spent the months that followed experimenting during nap times and after bedtimes. Testing waxes, wicks, fragrance combinations. Gifting jars to friends and watching their faces when they lit them for the first time. That response — the small, quiet joy of it — became the thing I kept making candles for.

"I believe a home should feel like a sanctuary. A good candle doesn't just fill a room with fragrance — it fills it with feeling."

More Than a Business

I want to be honest about what this means to me. Being a mum is the greatest thing I've ever done — but I also wanted my children to see me build something. To watch me work towards a goal, face the uncertainty of it, and keep going anyway. CommonScents is my way of showing them that it's never too late to back yourself, and that the things you pour your heart into have a way of finding their people.

Every candle I make is built around that — that scent is one of the most powerful ways we have to create comfort, calm, and connection. I source my fragrances carefully, blend them slowly, and pour every candle by hand. Nothing here is mass-produced. Each one carries a little bit of the intention I put into it.

Scents That Feel Like Home

The name CommonScents came from a simple truth: the scents we return to most, the ones that feel most like us, are rarely complicated. They're the familiar ones. The ones woven into ordinary moments — a Sunday morning, a quiet evening, a house full of little people and warm light. The ones that feel like coming home.

What's Coming

I'm currently putting the finishing touches on the first collection, and I could not be more excited to share it with you. Each scent has been crafted to evoke something real — a season, a moment, a feeling you'll recognise the instant you close your eyes. Follow along on Facebook and Instagram for behind-the-scenes peeks, launch updates, and the occasional candle-making mishap (there have been a few).

Thank you for being here at the beginning. It means more than you know.
